My Work
“With Your Love” is a song by local songwriter Geoff McKinnell. Geoff hadn’t worked with a producer before and seemed happy giving away artistic licence to his song. My first listen was a demo phone recording, but I could immediately hear where I could take the song and give it what I termed the “Nick Mulvey” treatment. My vision was to create some guitar loops and use these in place of the basic strummed pattern. I slowed the tempo which gave a very different feel to the song and added some rhythm sounds via a step sequencer. Having demoed some midi strings, I brought in Cellist Kath Buckler which glues the piece together nicely and gives it a real foundation. The ethereal backing vocals are courtesy of Pop Music student Cordelia which finalised the vision I had for this project.
