About Dom
Hi, I’m Dom – a Drummer, Drum Tutor, Producer, Sound Engineer based in Cornwall.
My Musical Journey
I grew up in Dublin in the 80’s, where I felt a real musical awakening, listening to 80’s pop, Ska & Two Tone or most frequently, Heavy Metal. Listening was fine, but I wanted to play. My Dad being a drummer agreed to my request for a drum kit and after some searching a 2nd hand Premier Ajax arrived on my 16th birthday. Practice was playing along to my vinyl collection but I was also fortunate enough to have a few lessons with Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy who lived up the road.
A few years later, I joined Polygram as an Assistant Trainee Engineer, and this kick started my passion for recording. Defining moments there included a Bowie re-mastering session. I now work with bands and musicians in my own project studio, helping them to find, develop and record their sound.
Over the next 20 years, I performed over 1000 shows on stages all over the UK and Europe with bands including Ska’d For Life, Squid 58, and The Ten Bob Notes. These days I play with Go Go Skank and The Mosquitoes.
I also enjoy working in education. I have been teaching drumkit since the late 90s, have worked as a Performing Arts Technician in a Secondary School, and now offer online drum tuition from my own studio.
Over the years, I have supplemented my experience with qualifications including a City & Guilds Sound Engineering qualification, a Pop Music Diploma, and more recently BA (hons) in Creative Music Technology.
